What Islam Says about Domestic Violence: A Guide for Helping Muslim Families by Zainab Alwani and Salma Abugideiri. For copy contact FAITH.
This guide is written for advocates, police officers, mental health workers, shelter staff, medical providers, lawyers, etc. It is intended to be used as a training supplement, with specific reference to the Power and Control Wheel. It was written as a result of many questions and concerns presented by workers who deal with Muslim women and families. Because the religion of Islam and the culture of the Middle East are relatively unfamiliar to most workers in this country, dealing with the Muslim population is often challenging and confusing. The goal of this guide is to present an overview of the teachings of Islam as related to the subject of domestic violence. It is hoped that having this understanding will guide workers to more effective and more sensitive interventions with Muslim victims of domestic violence.
