"Whosoever of you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart; and that is the weakest of faith."

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)

"The best of you is one who is best towards his family. As for me, I am best amongst you towards my family"

The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) "never beat anyone with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant."

Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1082

"And do not retain them (i.e. women) in wedlock against their will in order to hurt them. He who does such a thing indeed sins against himself. And do not take the signs of God lightly..."

The Holy Quran, Chapter The Cow, Verse 231

About Us

Not in Our Homes” is a joint project of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Peaceful Families Project, and Muslimat Al-Nisaa. If you, a friend, a co-worker, or family member is a victim of domestic violence, resources on this site can help get you the support you need. We are here for you.

CAIR is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights organization with 35 chapters across the country and in Canada. CAIR’s mission is to build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding, enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, and empower American Muslims.

Peaceful Families is the only national organization devoted solely to ending domestic violence in Muslim families by facilitating awareness workshops for Muslim leaders and communities, providing cultural sensitivity trainings for professionals, conducting research, and developing resources.

Muslimat Al-Nisaa is a non-profit organization established in 1987 to provide culturally-sensitive health, education and social services to Muslim women and children. In 2005, Muslimat Al-Nisaa added a shelter program to the original organizational objectives.
